Brackwater State Correctional Facility, otherwise known as Brackwater State Prison or “The Brick” is run by Warden Edward F. Dobbins III, grandson to the infamous Erskine “Bossman” Dobbins who used slave labor to build a road to Barking then embezzled the funds and left the project unfinished.

The Brick experienced food riots several years ago when it was discovered that horse meat was being served to the inmates. An investigation was convened and a grand jury was being readied but no indictments were ever handed down despite the fact there was considerable circumstantial evidence linking Ambrose Bancroft, part owner of Horseman’s Park racetrack in Stateline, to the horse meat.
